2020 Election Polling: A Postmortem Nov 13, 2020

We don’t know if the election will be decided by the time of our postmortem, but we do know that we will have plenty to talk about. We’ll be digesting the 2020 election results, the plethora of polls and their implications with a focus on the effects of race, gender and generation. There will also be plenty of time to hear from the many pollsters in attendance.

Amy Walter

Amy Walter is national editor of The Cook Political Report, providing analysis of the issues, trends, and events that shape the political environment. She hosts “Politics with Amy Walter” on “The Takeaway” radio news program (WNYC/PRX) and contributes to “PBS NewsHour” through her perspective weekly on “Politics Monday.”

Mark Hugo Lopez

Mark Hugo Lopez is director of Hispanic research at Pew Research Center. He studies the attitudes and opinions of Latinos, Hispanic views of identity, the political engagement of Latinos in the nation’s elections, and Latino youth. Lopez also coordinates the Center’s National Survey of Latinos, an annual nationwide survey of Hispanics.

Vincent Hutchings

Vincent Hutchings is the Hanes Walton Jr Collegiate Professor of Political Science and AfroAmerican and African Studies (by courtesy) as well as University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor at the University of Michigan. His research includes an examination of the ways in which political campaigns and the media frame information about racial issues in order to activate and make politically relevant the voters’ sympathies and/or antipathies for particular racial groups.

Moderator: Murray Edelman

Murray Edelman is a media consultant on elections and polling. For many years he ran the exit polling and projections for a pool of ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, NBC, and the AP. He is a past president of the American Association of Public Opinion Research.
