In the leadup to the 2024 U.S. presidential election, the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, in conjunction with Cornell’s Einhorn Center for Community Engagement and students from Cornell Votes and Black Students United, has been working in the Ithaca community to encourage all eligible voters to register and explore the science of public opinion polling in preparation for casting their vote by November 5th.
We attended the Welcome Students Weekend with our campus partners on September 14th on the Ithaca Commons, greeting incoming students and assisting them with voter or absentee ballot registration. Efforts continued at the Tompkins County Public Library on September 17th (National Voter Registration Day), at an Ithaca High School varsity football game on September 20th, and in the Ithaca High School library on September 26th, engaging residents and students 16 & older.
The Roper Center demonstrates how polling relates to presidential elections and democracy by through the educational resource, Campaign Weathervane. This resource is just one element of America’s Voice Project, an initiative to increase public access to the data on the Roper iPoll platform.
The Roper Center would like to thank our colleagues and student volunteers for assisting prospective and registered voters. To register to vote, please visit https://vote.gov/. Learn more about the Roper Center here.
