Louis Harris and Associates

Louis Harris & Associates was founded in 1956 by Louis Harris, who had started his career working for Elmo Roper at the Roper Organization. Harris became the first presidential pollster, helping John F. Kennedy to his win in 1960.

Established in 1963, the Harris Poll took on controversial issues during a tumultuous time of cultural change, asking challenging questions about beliefs and attitudes about race, the public’s emotional responses to the Kennedy assassination,  and experiences of violence [31092184]. Louis Harris and Associates was acquired by Gordon S. Black Corporation in 1996 and soon became known as Harris Interactive, one of the first adopters of online polling methods. The Harris Poll, conducted by Harris Insights & Analytics, is now part of Stagwell Group.
