The Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research is awarded each year to honor individuals whose work on public opinion and/or survey methodology has a lasting and significant impact on our understanding of public opinion.

2016 Mitofsky Award Winner James Stimson

The Roper Center Board of Directors is proud to announce that noted public opinion scholar, author, and mentor James Stimson is the recipient of the 2016 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research. Stimson will be presented with the award at a dinner in his honor in Washington, DC on November 16th.

Roper Center Board of Directors is proud to present the 2015 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for excellence in public opinion research to Daniel Yankelovich, prominent pioneer of modern opinion research, noted scholar, social scientist, and prophetic public opinion analyst. Educated at Harvard (BA 1946 and MA 1950) and Paris Sorbonne University, Mr. Yankelovich began his commercial research career in 1958 with the founding of Daniel Yankelovich, Inc., the marketing research firm which in 1974 became Yankelovich, Skelly, and White, Inc. His firm conducted monthly polls for Time, one of the earliest ongoing survey collections done with a major news magazine.

It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the Roper Center announces the winners of the 2013 Warren J. Mitofsky Award. They are Adam J. Berinsky, Professor of Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Eric Schickler, the Jeffrey and Ashley McDermott Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. The team is being honored for their extraordinary effort to shed new light on a substantial number of archived datasets at the Roper Center.

Bradburn, senior fellow with the Cultural Policy Center at NORC at the  University of Chicago, is the recipient of the 2012 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research. The award recognizes Bradburn’s impact on social and behavioral research that he established through his scholarship and leadership positions in the academy, the National Science Foundation, and within NORC.

Davis, Principal Investigator, emeritus, of the National Opinion Research Center’s General Social Survey and retired Professor of Sociology at Harvard University, is the recipient of the 2010 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research. The award recognizes Davis’s visionary role in the creation of the General Social Survey as well as his path-breaking research into social and generational change in American life.
